<3 I would adore a formal dance. But I think it should be strictly formal, because I know there are some stupid people every year that would gladly run into a formal and try to crash it.

Now here's a question. For a formal dance, would the music selection be a mix of dance and slow (think prom) or all slow? I am trying to think how it would work...

Hm...It'd probably be more fun if there were some dance music thrown into the mix. I mean...it can't be ALL formal, people would get bored. Or at least...I would. :/

Yeah, DJing was fun. If someone else wants to do it this year, I GUUUUESS I won't bug the staff to let me do it again this year, though if Barry returns (he did some AWESOME DJing for a few minutes) I would like to see him back up there too. So it sounds like, at least among our forum goers, that the 2 dances should be the rave w/ attendees' contributions because it was fun, and the formal dance because it would be something new. And to whoever said maybe some would come shirtless to that, there are characters whom I'm sure would consider no shirt to be formal, hah. I will say, depending on if attendees DJing and contributing music will be allowed by our audio folks this year, that for the attendees' music, we should have a kind of mail in deadline, so most stuff can be uploaded and figured out ahead of time. I had some iffy requests from CDs people brought up or they didn't work well, but they were rare in that regard. Just less work to worry about once the time comes. People could still bring stuff in, but pre-approved stuff would be kind of a priority on the playlist. i would love to dj ^_^ buuuut i can understand if i couldn't be done , i asked nick like back in april and he just gave me the "i dont know bout that"

well so let me ask something
for the formal dance..
would we have to wear like..formal clothing? or could we still wear our cosplays? because I can think of a few that are a bit more on the less formal side xD

Formal Dances, usually at most Anime Con's, are strict clothing limitations. It must be formal attire usually, which can range from Formal regular outfits or a anime styled one. There was a website on it.. www.fuunsaiki.com/cosplayguide/guide-heavy.html^ Seriously. The best guide EVER to Formal Wear for Cosplays.

could have sworn I posted here...but in anycase. I happen to agree with the formal dance going on. We didnt have one last year if I remember and I believe that the dance should be something of a masquerade ball so to speak. Both men and women have to get masks for a few hours and not take them off and what not. The song selection should include a mixture of both fun songs...as well as formal songs...hence not totally being prom and what not....would rather not re-live his again....but structured around music that doesnt involve jumping around or running...anything that causes one to "dance all around."
Keeping things simple and easy going is the key. With the dress atire in mind...you can do cosplays...but the atire must be smart. Like a military outfit like that of the fullmetal outfits....and or Phantom of the Opra appearence. Like lolita dresses are good...but nothing too too short on the dress marks.
I totally agree with Mimiako's link she has...its perfect...
so formal dance has my vote

I hope more people see the formal dance Link. XD It helps a LOT. That's where I learned how to have a formal cosplay.
<3 I would adore to make one.
I would ADORE having the masks, its romantic-esque and mysterious. XD Though, its not hard to tell its me. Ever.

I would go with the Phantom of the Opra style mask for me. Masquerade ball sounds like something that we have not had here...and something that could be fun. I dont know about electing kings and queens...or really thinking of it as a prom. But something different from the normal dance that we seem to have grown acustom to at cons...raves, sweat, heat, and loud loud music. It would be nice to step back and try something a little more formal and controled you know.

The more you guys talk about the idea for the formal dance... the more I begin to like the idea. Heehee..
Although... would Kakuzu really need a mask? He's already wearing one. Heehee... I suppose I could just go in the Rin cosplay.
