It's not level based (the level cap is 20) It's more skill based... and there's an endless amount of skill builds you can make. You can make different builds depending on the mission your doing or for an area you're going into, so it's rather useful. There's no grinding and no pressure to get to a higher level faster, which I enjoy because I'm a slowpoke when it comes to leveling up xD haha. You can also go solo rather than in a group, so you won't have to deal with those scary gamers if you don't want to :3 I'm kind of anti-social, even online, so that's nice for me. There are henchmen that you can use (healers, melee fighters, casters, etc) You can have two professions at once, and you can change your second profession at any time, which makes the skill options endless and it helps if a certain build of skills is more effective in a certain area or something like that.
But I think the thing that I love the most about it is the fact that there are no monthly fees. It's awesome.
It's a nicely made game :] I'm really looking forward to GW2

Gail, it's not the lag, but the overall community and time you spend on the game will be better and more efficient.
However, the lag would logically be worse on a private server, but not by a lot.

I've been playing WoW since it was released, so like 5 years or something I've also played Everquest I/II, Guild Wars, Aion, some of the Star Trek: Online but it didn't grab me that much, City of Heroes/City of Champions, EVE, FlyFF, Perfect World, Atlantica, Granado Espada, and some others. WoW maintains the most fun though because of the multitude of friends I have on there that still play. Looking forward to FF14, Star Wars: Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, and Diablo 3 if you consider that an MMO of sorts. RPGs aside, Dragon Age Origins is one of my favorite games as of late, and I'm sure at this rate Mass Effect 2 will fight for that top spot too. Oblivion/Marrowind used to be up in there but DAO kicked their faces out the window. @gail private servers can be just as fun as public, it depends what kind of player you are. if you're a social kind (which i'm assuming you are) then if you have a lot of good friends that play often on the private server, it can be just as good. otherwise a public server has a far larger population and you can of course make new friends there. i would personally recommend public servers but thats just me
