WHAT? Where did you hear that from?
The last I heard, I was still being Haruhi. I do have a Honey cosplay, but it was just for an ouran event at Izumicon (not Anime STL)
I know how much you want to be him, and I'm in no way trying to take that role away from you. Whoever told you that I was replacing you did not talk to me about it.
If anyone's going to drop, it'll probably be Kyle...when we were talking about the tea party idea last summer, he hadn't even seen the series yet (and was mainly talked into being Mori without even knowing much about the character). Later that year, a friend of ours who runs Izumicon was talking about doing an Ouran tea party, and we mentioned that we were probably doing one at Anime STL as well. She got all excited and wanted to know if we'd also participate at hers. Since he mentioned was going to be Mori for Anime STL, she had asked me if I wanted to be Honey because we're a couple (which was fine with me. Honey isn't my favorite character, but I do like him more than Haruhi....not that I don't like Haruhi or anything; I like all the members of the Host Club). I eventually got the first half of the series when it was released in the fall, and I loaned it to Kyle. He liked the series, but now he thinks it's kinda akward to be Mori when I'm not Honey. It's nothing against you, and he would much rather drop out himself than force you to get replaced.

Ok, I still haven't gotten to talk to Kayla yet, but does anyone know how long this event is going to be? When I did the Ouran Tea party at Izumicon, it took up a WHOLE evening (and I missed out on a ton of stuff at the con...)
with the masquerade and date auction already in our schedule, there's a chance that Kyle and I won't be able to be a part of the event.
Edit: ok, Kyle talked to Kayla, and it looks like we're here to stay :3 (just as long as it doesn't run too long or interfere with the date auction and masquerade)

well, when we did the tea party at Izumicon, there was almost a problem with not having enough food. (It was supposed to be an "RSVP only" thing, but people still managed to sneak in without a reservation...) We got lucky because some of the guests were generous and declined some of the treats that were passed around so there would be enough for everyone.
Also, is this event supposed to be free? (or do people pay to get in?) Who will be paying for the food? How many people will be allowed to participate? Maybe we should figure some of those questions out before we decide what kind (if any) food will be there.
we'd also need some other people to help out with passing out food/drinks if there are any, and any mess made will have to be cleaned up (and I doubt hotel staff will allow us to have food if we don't take responsibility to clean it up ourselves and leave the room as clean as it was before we used it)

Well to have food, it'l be really tricky because the hotel almost does not allow food At ALL.

Sneaking things in is not a good idea - it'd risk getting the con in trouble. Enough problems, and I doubt the hotel would let us have the con there in years to come. what about beverages? Do they allow Tea or Coffee?

From what I personally know, they have a cafe there that serves both of those.
Food Sampling
Food & beverage samples may be no greater than 2 oz. Items must be manufactured, processed, and distributed by the exhibiting firm and must be related to participation in the event. Securing of all necessary licenses and permits is the responsibility of the exhibitor. For public health reasons, restrooms, concession stands, facility kitchen and janitorial closets, may not be used as exhibitor clean-up areas. Costs associated with the disposal of trash, waste, grease from exhibitor sampling are the responsibility of the exhibitor. Exhibitors are responsible for complying with all St. Charles & St. Charles County Health Department regulations regarding food sampling, storage, equipment, temperature, etc. If an exhibitor is not in compliance or does not obtain the proper licenses or permits, the Health Department can shut down the booth.
^ Thats the Con Center's policy. But I'll go ask Nick just incase.

so...any updates on how this event is going to work out? Also, is it possible to have it on Friday? I'm not sure when the Bishi auction is, but if it's on Saturday, I'll possibly be swamped with that and the masquerade.

Greetings!
Based on what Mimiako posted, I'm guessing beverages might not be allowed, but I'll double check.
In regards to the date, what was originally asked? If you need it moved to Friday, please make sure to e-mail Julie so she knows to make the switch. You can find her contact e-mail on the website.

Ok, I contacted Kayla on Deviantart, and she says it's still going! (and it's supposed to be on Friday! Horray!)
that takes a load of stress off me.
Well, the worst-case scenario is that we won't have anything to serve the guests.....does anyone have any suggestions or things you would like to see in this event that doesn't involve food or drink?

Greetings!
I checked, and no outside food or beverages are allowed in the convention center, dealers being the exception.

a lot of crazy stuff has been coming up. Here's what's been going on on Kayla's end: ravenspiritmage.deviantart.com/journal/23405821/Originally, Kayla was planning to make the vests for all the host club members (so they'd match), but when I contacted her a few days ago, she had asked me if Kyle and I could make our own vests....but we've been swamped as well (the chances we'd get those done would be slim at this point in time). But even if we were able to get our vests done, she would still be making 5 vests for the other host club members......and she can't start on them until she has measurements and money (and time). CrackRoxas got a new account on Deviantart. Last I heard, she said she wasn't going to be at AnimeSTL this year, but I'm not sure if she's changed her mind. So at this point in time, this panel might get cancelled unless Kayla says otherwise. I suggested that maybe we could turn the panel into an anime/video game Host Club where random bishie characters can host guests, but I haven't gotten a response. Sorry guys

That would really stink if you couldn't do this, it sounds like it would be fun. Although coming up with things that aren't food could be difficult. Maybe instead of feeding people you could help them relax. Hand massages (or foot if your feeling adventurous) or you could put on little skits or something. IDK, it sounds like it would be fun if you could just work out all the problems.
