Just an idea I thought I might try to do next year, but in the likely event that I don't attend, I thought I should put it out there for someone who might be interested.
Basically, it's very much like those carnival booths where someone tries to guess your age/weight/etc. Obviously instead, the person is guessing what the contestant is cosplaying as.
This is as far as I've worked it out in my mind. To play is only a dollar or two. You write the character you're cosplaying as on an index card, along with what series they're from, and if they're from anime/manga/videogames/alloftheabove. The booth attendant gets 30 seconds and two guesses to guess your character and where it's from. Japanese/English character and series names are interchangeable, and the attendant only needs to guess one series in which the character appears. A laptop will be handy for reference in case there are any disputes on where the character has appeared and for reference images.
So specific prizes are to be determined obviously, and they wouldn't be anything amazing. Everyone's a winner, just a question of how big a winner.
Level 1 prize: Attendant knows who the character is and where its from, but couldn't guess anything correctly. i.e., sorry, your cosplay fails.
Level 2 prize: Attendant guessed the name and series of your character.
Level 3: You stumped the attendant on either the character or series name.
Level 4: Congratulations on an original cosplay. The attendant doesn't know who your character is or where they're from, or they couldn't answer fast enough.
So it probably needs some tweaking, but basically I wanted to reward people for having unique cosplays (or just for getting lucky enough that the attendant couldn't remember fast enough). At the same time, no prize for just having such a bad cosplay that you don't look like the character at all.
Anyway, feel free to steal the idea and use whatever parts of it you like.
