I hope this can be posted here. I was so confused as to where it should go.
^^;
My crew (my three friends and myself that attended ASTL) thoroughly enjoyed ASTL and are all ready planning on returning for next year. It was really awesome to see all of the cosplays as well as the events scheduled. This was my first con, and of course—as my family and myself always seems to do—bad weather came with me (my uncle used to tell us we couldn't go camping with him, saying "we brought the rain," because it would rain every time we camped). But, you know, everyone was very calm and collected during the tornado warning, and the Gateway Center (as well as the con staff) handled things well. After we were no longer in danger, it became a staple of joking for the entire evening that "we survived the tornado."
Although my Minato cosplay isn't the first that I've ever made, it is the only one I've ever finished. Well, I almost have it finished. I tried to complete my boot covers on the drive, but it wasn't a long enough drive. I didn't even finish the right and have some of the second half of the velcro sewn down. Had I woken up at 8am on Friday like I had planned, I could have had them in time to wear them. Definitely for the next con I go to, they will be finished. After all the time, money, and hard work I put into the cosplay, I'm not going to wear it once and then retire it. I was rather happy with how my cosplay turned out, aside from missing the boots, my Evoker looking lumpy thanks to my lacking paper mache skills, and my lanyard not gluing to the top of my "mp3 player."
That being said, I had a couple major FAIL moments yesterday. One, I opened the wrong door to go into a panel and felt really stupid. Two, I opted to watch anime on Funimation's youtube page rather than continue watching gameplay of Persona 3 so I knew more of Minato's battle cries and summons. Why don't I play the game? I can't. Video games stress me out, but I love watching other people play them. Yeah, anyway, someone wanted me to do a summon call for a higher level of the game, and I couldn't do it. I felt rather foolish. Had I not been running on little liquids, one meal from Steak n' Shake, lack of sleep, and possessed quick thinking, I could have simply came back and said that I'm the first phase Minato when you are first inducted into the S.E.E.S. But, I wasn't that quick on my feet. Not that it would have changed the fact that I didn't finish my research of the character (beyond the first ten, ten minute videos on youtube and what the wikia page had to say).
But, there were several who recognized me and made me feel good. Unfortunate, I lack proper people skills to know how to react. One girl asked for a hug, which I gave, because she said she loved me (Minato). I drew a blank and know I ended up saying something stupid like "Yeah," or "Glad" which isn't even a full sentence. That was a fail moment, too, actually. If that one is on the forum, I apologize for that awkward moment. ^^;
I also was sort of fangirled early on and made to feel special. A girl asked for a picture, and one of her group gushed over the details of my cosplay. What I remember was she was excited over my S.E.E.S. armband.
My friend Chris dressed as a character from Desert Punk and was recognized by a lot of people and asked for several pictures. Unfortunately, the ice pack he had for the helmet to keep it cool inside wasn't the kind that you just pop and it is cold, so the helmet fogged up inside too much for him to keep it on. He almost immediately after registration had to change out of it. But, his Admiral Ackbar, "It's a Trap," shirt was commented on several times. Plus, he registered originally as not for the cosplay discount in case his costume didn't meet the standards of cosplay (he read the rules and panicked a little). So, it was still good.
I only took eight pictures. XD Maybe next time, I'll have more nerve to chase after cosplayers and ask for a picture. I did find another Minato cosplayer and asked for a picture with him. I saw a group of Soul Eater cosplayers that were Stein, Justin Law, and Blair, but I didn't stop to ask for their picture because they were sitting at one of the tables. I didn't know if they were busy or eating, so I left them alone. I really wanted their pictures, though. I also failed to get any of the three Death the kids that I saw. Or, either of the two Souls.
I did take a few videos of the Whose Line is it Anime outside, but my camera is a so-so one for taking pictures (the lighting in the building made everything a pinkish shade), and secondly a video camera. So, low light settings suck. And, the sound is hard to hear because of the heavy winds and general noise of being outdoors. But, I loved Jeremy ripping on anime during Your Anime Sucks. "Scurvy fighting pirates, not for six-year-olds, still kinda has the coolest thing ever."
I wish I could have gotten him chasing after the police woman—when she pulled up and began walking into the building—and speaking with her then running back to the center of the crowd saying, "My ride's here," on video. Even with the confusion and long day, as a major Whose Line is it Anyway fan, that event was still worth the wait.
