Is it bad that I didn't know people were freaking out about the Swine Flu until I read this post?
Anyway, I am going to school to be a Veterinary Technician and this is what my text book states:
"Swine Influenza is a viral disease of swine that produces high fever, up to 108F, anorexia and a deep, dry "barking" cough. The disease is characterized by a high morbidity (nearly 100%) and low mortality. The clinical signs of this epizootic (an outbreak of disease affecting many animals of one kind at the same time; also: the disease itself) form of swine influenza are dramatic, distinctive, and highly suggestive of the disease although diagnostic tests are available for definitive diagnosis. There is no specific treatment for swine influenza but good nursing care and antimicrobial administration for prevention of secondary bacterial respiratory infections is suggested. Vaccines are available for protection against swine influenza. Though rare, swine influenza may be zoonotic (passed from animal to person) and cause serious illness and even death in humans; therefore, it is the veterinarian's responsibility to prevent infected animals from appearing at public exhibitions."

BLAME THE FARMERS!
I'm really not too terribly worried about it.
