Hey, guys, Pika here. X3 I'm considering cosplaying as Midna's imp form from the Zelda game Twilight Princess, but before I even think of starting, I have no clue how I'm gonna do her helmet piece. Here's a picture. I need to make it out of some kind of material that's relatively sturdy, but won't be heavy on my head. I can just imagine getting those neck cramps during the con, ouch. XO But I really don't want to touch it with one finger and have it fall apart, either. Help please? ^^

^_^ i would use thin and bendable foam make a kind of like a crown as you notice there is defanition to it. The top part seems to stickout from the crown that i think i would use a thicker foam on top of the thiner foam crown.

You could always use Model Magic. It works pretty good for me. And It's never that heavy to wear.

Maybe Wonderflex. That stuff is sort of expensive, but a lot of professional cosplayers use it and there's a lot of it when you purchase it. You just have to heat it up by oven, microwave, even hot water and it bends and molds. They say it doesn't ever break, if you do like three sheets in a layer that its practically unmovable. www.cosplay.com/photo/353880/^ Example of three sheets. The girl says it never moved nor never took any damage and held up perfectly. I think it would be perfect for Midna. www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=60768^ All you need to know about Wonderflex, it really is like the cosplayers secrect weapon to props. :3 www.amethyst-angel.com/propcloset/aa_wonderflex_tutorial.html^ Tutorial, the end result looks amaziing.

Thanks all for your suggestions! X3 Keep 'em comin!
Link: Foam seems like it would work, but wouldn't it be flimsy? Plus, if I used layers of foam, you could see where the layers meet. Thanks, though!
lantilachan: That might work, depending on if it doesn't break or not. I've used Sculpey before, and it becomes brittle sometimes.
Mimiako: I wish I could use this so bad! But I don't have the experience, nor the money, to use this. I would stress too much over it. XP
I appreciate your help, guys. ^^

If you get the model magic hard enough it maintains the shape. But actually making it look how you want can kill your time. But it's fairly cheap and you can buy it anywhere really. But for something complex as her helmet, I would only use it if you have the ability to wait for something as big as that to harden and sculpt all those details.

I've heard that paper clay/ paper mache works well. I've never done it myself, but I found this tutorial a few days ago and it seems rather awesome: www.jiajem.com/armor.htmlI think that would work for your helmet...
