In response to Kibakun's post, we actually had one entry that was made in Flash, and we did allow it. I'm a mostly easy-going person when it comes to mediums (work with what you got) I'm just anal about what makes a good AMV, hehe.
@ Rika, I wasn't there for all of it myself since I had to attend to things, but there were some entries that made their resolutions too small. Maybe it was just using the projector and Quicktime that did it too, I'd have to find out.

I'd like to suggest a rule for the would be contest. No subtitles in your AMV. If there are any, it should be disqualified. It's not that hard to get raws or dvds, people.

That actually was a rule we had last year, but I was willing to make an exception if it was part of a joke (ie, weird translations).

What about logos that appear on the bottom of the screen (like when you're watching a show on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network)? The show my friend and I are doing is releasing it's first DVD set next month I think, but we're using clips from the second season as well, and there is no set release date for it.

There should be no subs or logos period.

There should be no subs or logos period. We didn't have an issue with this last year because no entries had said problem. I wouldn't want to be that strict about it (yet), but with logos, it most likely would be too distracting if it kept popping on and off, or just being there. And again with the subs, I've seen good translation jokes before, but if it was too distracting, then it would be removed. Otherwise, it's an edit designed to make more emotion/humor in the AMV. (Not something set in stone, I'm just giving my opinion.)

In answer to the resolution problem. I was told for AMV contests at BIG cons, they ask for the resolution to be 640x350 or wide screen. In Vegas 6, the default video size is somthing like 720x640.
@ Doublej: Yes, I am also very anal about how AMVs are made. I hate when people use downloaded footage and/ or footage from already made AMVs (ie from AMV.org). Also when people use the same scene for more than five seconds. I guess it is because I know some really good AMV makers.

Yeah there was I enter it too. I enter all the categories and none of my AMVS even worked I was pissed. but they ahve like drama, romance, tradgey, actio, and then 2 themed ones. it was cool.

I was told there was only a themed option to enter under, and I couldn't figure out how to make an AMV to match the theme so I didn't enter. :/

I was in the amv contest last year and I won the Action video...and like..I have no idea how to get rid of the subs in my videos because I fail ^^;; but I already made my amv for next year but no credits yet because I don't know what's required for this year but I'm thinking the only reason why it wasn't very popular last year is because it was held in this room in the back of the con and like..almost no one knew about it because it was hidden D: so they should make a bigger deal out of it to get more people to show up this time ^^

Now can we have small sections of real life video of cosplay in the amv's. Some cons ask that the video is 50% anime, but that there can be other material in them. I was wondering for a shot I want to do from a show, but in real life cosplay.

I have seen if before and if done correctly, it can look great. Just checking on what can be done.
