The colored badges, so it seemed anyway, was their way of not being responsible if some 12 year old girl decided to hook up with a 24 year old guy just because he was dressed up as her favorite anime character.
Thats the thought that was going through my head anyway. I came across a lot of pedo-ey green badgers.

I really loved the con, and I really don't have to many complaints.
The rave wasn't the bomb. Like Tat had said, some people just weren't feeling the beat. And if the music was the problem like some people had said, what about techno remixs of anime songs? Usually is nice. Why I would want to hear the anime music at a formal dance is just a different matter. I didn't go though, so. Lol.
As for the pre-reg line. Yay for me forgetting to pre-reg! Honestly, if I did have to wait that long.. I could kinda see me getting upset because the line was supposed to be pre-reg... then my mind would wander to acen's hell of a line I went through and I'd forget I was ever mad at anime stl's line.
Oh! One last thing I can remember, it'd be nice if they could tell when the con center closes. One night I got locked out of the convention center, but that's where I had to meet up with everyone because that's where they still were. They had just got out of late panels or what not. :C It was quite inconvenient since we weren't staying in the Embassy Suites.

The 16+ or 18+ panels are listed as such specifically at the request of the guests who ran them. IDs still must be checked because it would be all too easy for an Green Badge attendee to slip their badge to an underage attendee just so they could get into the panel. Hey, whoa, no reason to shout. And as I'm going to point out for the third time now, the fact that you're checking the badges at the door means there's no reason for the color coded badges. Yes, it bears repeating as much as possible. Sorry, didn't mean to come off as shouting. I just wanted everyone to see the post so people don't keep asking the same questions over and over again. ^^;;

I don't see what the big deal is about the color coded badges. The convention has been doing them for a while and checking the IDs is just a little extra to be sure that people aren't getting around the rules. Why does it matter if the registration or staff wants to do color coded badges, they have been there for a few years now so what does it matter?

1) there needed to be signs posted throughout the convention to direct to where things where located... many people could have used them 2) In the program guide, organize it by day and time... not by who and what (maybe you can color code/bigger bolder font the bigger events taking place durring the convention)~~~> I know there was that piece of large paper w/ times on it, but not all panels or events where on it... no need to make pamplets if they are confusing and nobody uses them for they are too confusing. 3) Even though the center and hotel where VERY nice... I just don't think it was big enough... I mean the rooms things where held in where so small, only a limited number of people could get in sometimes.. and when people pay for something, they expect results. $45 or whatever is TOO much to pay if you are not getting to do the things you wish for lack of planning/space. At the same time, it was too big in some ways... it was WAY too spread out... the anime viewing rooms where hidden away (made me a sad panda)... it was just a lot of walking around, and confusion.. them again, maybe the signs I mentioned earlier would help with this issue... 4) ALWAYS expect more than what you think their might be... limited parking SUCKED... try not to plan an event on a day something else is planned.. or tell the convention center NOT to plan anything durring it... I'm sure the gun show people where just as pissed about this issue. 5) I KNOW you tried for guests, but try to get more... beg, bribe w/ pokey... idk. 6) There where very few panels... I like the fact they were spread out though b/c I normally have 2-4 panels I wish to go to at once durring bigger conventions.. and that blows. Spreading out the panels is lucrative to the dealers room and to the food places... I'm sure they where happy about that. ^_^ But I do wish there where better panels... More of a varaity... And less guest panels, or more regular panels to even it out. (just giving opptions/suggestions) 7) I myself thought the 2 dances was a GREAT idea, but the formal fell FLAT... maybe you should use that dance for more anime music.. like a pure anime dance(slow and fast tunes), and the dance on saturday stay a pure rave... the people wishing for more anime music will be happy and so will the people who just love to dance to house tunes (such as myself.. I LOVED the rave,... VERY danceable music.. it was a RAVE, not just called a rave) 8)the registration was a mess for many reasons.. mainly for lack of signs/directions (plus u moved it to down stairs! confusing) designate lines... maybe alphabetical... pre registered one area(use the alphabetical thing here) and at con register another area. I think that would organize things A LOT. 9)MAke sure the masquerade goers understand that they have a lot of time on stage and NOT to rush. maybe make designated spots on stage for where to pose so the judges and audiance can see them and maybe take pictures. The guy announcing was messing up the whole time also.. idk why... 10) Choose a MUCH bigger room for the dealers room.... the room was laughable... 11) maybe get a room or people to just chill in... like chair, cushions, couches... like a lounge area where people can mingle and not clog up the hallways... this too should be a big room, and maybe have anime or music playing (low volume of the sound) and maybe encourage the guests to go there from time to time to mingle with the con goers. 12) maybe you should add photo taking areas or something... either a professional you can buy photos from... or like cute/funny/ silly littel set ups throughout the con.. something fun to do. 13) there needed to be more activities... there where barley any... the sword fighting. (which you had to pay for), panels, anime, game room, and dealers room.... not much AT ALL... that fact was depressing and made the con kind of boring. ~ maybe do a scavenger hunt durring the whole con ~ maybe have music playing at spots around the cons (people can gather and dance or whatever.. idk ~ Do some contests that involve more than amv, or cosplay (such as the scavenger hunt) 14) Everyone loves the anime date auction thing.. but I think it was WAY too early in the day... do it later.. more people will be there and bid (more moeny for the con)... plus the people that go early are normally the younger ones and I myself didnt get there everyday untill like 1pm... maybe make it later at night so people right after it can go on a date.. or like right before the dances so they can go and dance or something... make it lesws awkward for them if they had an oppritunity for them to do something afterwards... I have more... ask questions if you think my suggestions are good... if you need ideas/ art help/ planning/ orginizing/ or anything really.. I could help out.. but I dont wish to become a full time stuff person... I wish to attend the con. ^_^

The Convention Center initially agreed to lock up after we were done, but on Friday night they closed much earlier than we had requested, and even some of our staff members got stuck inside. It was inconvenient for us too and we'll work extra hard to make sure it doesn't happen again!

Badges checks at the 18+ Panels were needed if ANYONE QUESTIONABLE had traded off with a minor. If they presented ID at the door, then being asked at random (not every person) to present it again, shouldn't be a problem--as the ID should be with them. If anyone re-asked for ID it was because people looked a bit too young for the badge they had. It happens! People maye think you're younger what you really are. Be flattered not upset, no one means you harm D:

And speaking of the gun show... Some people told me that the dealers didnt bring/sell any ramune or pocky because the convention center said that they couldnt sell food... but the gun show had a buffet type line? What was up with that? I'll tell you what I recall from the Q&A, because this did come up. I might slightly misremember this. Basically, the upstairs area is considered the convention area, and food is not allowed up there. The downstairs is considered part of the hotel (except maybe the panel rooms?). HOWEVER, AStL -did- get clearance to have pocky, which they classified as a novelty item. The problem was that the dealers simply didn't bring pocky! So we could have had pocky, but we had no pocky liaison to hook us up. @zayane, Well, I don't mean you should have -actual- tickets, but maybe something that serves as a ticket of sorts. Basically it comes down to asking yourself, "What information do I, the badge-giver, need from the person who is here to claim a badge at the time that they come to get the badge?" The more information you need, the more useful it is for that person to already have something with that information on it. So if you NEED to know how the person paid, or just if it would really help, then you could put that information on the confirmation letter/email. Make sure they know that they need to BRING that confirmation form or a printout of that email with them. Obviously you need to know their name, so if nothing else, the form prevents you from having to ask for their name and how its spelled. Actually, I'm pretty sure you lost a couple of seconds asking me how to spell my last name. So the point is not that it's an actual ticket, but you want people to treat it that way so that they actually bring it and you don't have to do things the slow way. And I'd be happy to help with 2010, though frankly, registration sounds yaaaaaaaaaawn. I'd love to manage events or something like that, but anyway, I live in Columbia. I could come up to St. Louis every once in a while to help out, but something I could manage from home would be vastly preferable. Anyway, I'll help in whatever way I can in preparing for the convention, but you can probably not rely on me to get much work done during the actual convention

And I wonder why I ended up like I did D: I knew Volunteers left meh for a reason. I really don't want to get into WHY I was central of Pre-reg. Things were FAWKED this I know. I wanted to get'er done, and this I did. Now I can take time to fix it.

I love this con, I have been atending astl since its birth, and i usually do not have complaints of it. this year there arent so much complaining as just advice....with a LITTLE complaining lol.
FIRST i thought this was anime ST LOUIS not anime st charles, its a lovely center adn hotel, i just didnt like having to drive for 45 minutes bc it wasnt in stl.
number two. the rave. dimmed lights? really? you need colors and flashy and rahhhhhh and anime music alongside techno game music and j-rock and j-pop!!! plus i think the space was too small!! there were people nearly getting hit bc they kept going by the area all the poi spinners were, plus the water was right there, which makes ppl go by more and get nearly hit or mess up the spinners. it was ridicilious. need more space!
the dealers room, it was toooooo small. everyone was cramped even the dealers said they could use more space. plus it was in a little corner, so it was way out of the way of all the other rooms, which was a little bothersome. it was also a little overpriced but its expected at a con. but somone tried chargin 50$ for a plushie.... it was chaotic.
the panels. i usually dont go to panels but it seemed like when the mascarade was going on there was absolutly nothing else going on. the rest of the con was mostly dead but anime and games. and if everyone cant get into the mascerade then maybe you should try setting up something else.
and the guests. there wernt that many as there were last year it was kinda sad!!!!! D: all the panels were focused on travis and steve... common you can do better astl!
the staff and vlounteers when i asked didnt even know where some of the events were held. that was a little ridicilious.
there wasnt alot of room for taking pictures when ppl took pics everyone walked in the way...
The hotel ppl were kind of rude, very rude, i know thats not you but they dont get some of us are in cosplay and just bc it doesnt look as nice as it should doesnt mean we didnt spend money there and want to be able to eat and go to the rooms with out them saying we cant bc of the way we are dressed and bc they think we might be loud. my group stepped off the elevator for a few minutes and a hotel staff came in and told us we were being complained about. we were there no more then 5 minutes. what the hell is that? we were not even making noise, we were being quite considerate, unlike the guys playing lazer tag in the lobby at 4am. wtf.
anyways it was a great con but these are just some things i think could use work. also, presently there is being a hotel built down in denmar loop, which is a prime location with many stores and stuff around it. i think that once it is built it would be an amazing place for a con and i suggest taking look into it for a future con. i think its called like the moonshine or something but it is not fuly built yet. i just thought it would be a nice place for a con with all the parking, stores, food places around it plus its right in stl!
i realise the con is a bit messed up from last year bc of the new management, nick. i noticed the changes in everything and figured he was trying to change things. but really, it was a great con, but there are kinks. mostly you need space and to work on the rave.

2) In the program guide, organize it by day and time... not by who and what (maybe you can color code/bigger bolder font the bigger events taking place durring the convention)~~~> I know there was that piece of large paper w/ times on it, but not all panels or events where on it... no need to make pamplets if they are confusing and nobody uses them for they are too confusing. The program book was broken down into specific sections; Events, Fan Panels, and Guest Panels, and then arranged by time and day. This was done so everyone could easily identify the activity. The schedule was printed on a separate sheet of paper for two reasons. 1) To fit it in the program book would involve making it illegibly small or take so many pages it would be more confusing than helpful. 2) It's easy to fold up and carry around.

Cool. I hope I'm not coming off as too much of a hardass. ^_^; Heh, not at all. I've seen worse. A lot of the feedback from today has been good, constructive stuff to add to our own agenda to discuss about next year.
