I have a few ideas, but it would make it easier to know how much money you are willing to spend.

Simple enough. Most people looking to make something cheap usually use cardboard. Get yourself 2 large cardboard boxes. On 1, draw out the shape of your bass and cut it out. A utility knife or x-acto knife will give you a better, and more accurate cut. Use that cut out as the stencil for a 2nd piece. Now you need some poster boards. Figure out how thick you want the bass to be from the outside edges of the cardboard and cut out strips of poster board that wide. Tape those strips to the edges of the cardboard with packing tape to make the bass. You'll want to tape it down from the back to the front of the bass completely, not along the edges. Dont leave any piece uncovered. To get the tape to lie smoothly, slice the tape that goes on the cardboard so that it wont crinkle. Now you can just leave it the way it is and paint it, but you will be able to see the ripples in the carboard and the tape. If you dont want that to show, get yourself some Plasti Dip in a can, not the spray can. You can find it in the paint department of Lowes. I havent looked at Home Depot so I dont know if they carry it. Its worth checking Walmart too, or any sort of hardware store. Of course you can order it online www.plastidip.com. You can simply just brush it on to the entire thing to give it a smooth surface all over. I'de say give it at least 2 coats. You will either want to get plenty of brushes or Acetone to keep the brushes clean. The Plasti Dip will dry out on the brush and pretty much make it a piece of plastic. So you wont get as smooth of a paint job. Then you can paint it how ever you want. Dont forget to cover the paint with laquer. A glossy laquer will give you a shiny guitar. Good luck. Once you finish it you should definately put up some pics. I'de like to see it.

I almost forgot a really good tip. Try and get GhostLine poster board. It has a 1/2in grid on it. So that will make it easier to get straight lines.
