Anyone got some Japanese bands/singers to recommend to me while I`m here? I`m going to search for Mr. Children CDs, but I`m curious what other people enjoy.

It depends on the type of music you like. I would recommend The Ulfuls or Kishidan, because I like them both. They are both rockish. If you like electronic music you might look into a group called Hifana. Make sure you look up bands and listen to music before you buy. CDs in Japan are waaaaaaaaaay to expensive to be buying random stuff you don't know if you'll like.

Go to the store BOOK OFF while you are in Japan. Cheap books and cds That store is paradise! I spent waaay too much time in Book Off, bought waaay too much manga. I still have my Book Off points card in my wallet...
I know you're not there for very long Jeremy, but if you plan on spending a lot of money on CDs and electronics, get a Yodobashi Camera points card. I racked up enough points during my stay to get a free CD. Which brings me to your question. Bands that haven't been mentioned already...
Orange Range Luna Sea SKIN La'cryma Christi and Beat Crusaders (you'd love their Engrish!)

An Cafe, Kokusyoku Sumire, Vanilla Mood, and Ayabie. *w* As well as Diru, of course. But I doubt you'd find my taste in music to your own liking.

I'm mostly into the heavier J-rock/visual kei:
Dir en Grey (the most popular for a reason, IMO) MUCC (missed them here in the States, still regretting it) Malice Mizer (industrial/avant garde) X Japan (Classic metal, pioneers of visual kei, once the biggest band in Japan) Miyavi (solo J-rock/pop singer, formerly of Dué le Quartz) Sex Machineguns (power/thrash/visual kei) Maximum the Hormone (10 genres in one, very fun experimental Jrock with Jpop elements) Aliene Ma'riage (industrial heavy stuff) Animetal (power metal covers of anime tunes) Moi dix Mois (symphonic black metal ala CoF meets Malice Mizer-esque J-Rock) L'Arc en Ciel (classic poppy J-rock) The Black Mages (Nobuo Uematsu turns his Final Fantasy songs into prog rock/metal) Gackt (solo J-prop/rock vocal artist, formerly of Malice Mizer) Hide (former X Japan guitarist turned solo J-rock artist, RIP 1997) Melt Banana (experimental noise rock with punk girl vocalist) Onmyouza (Classic metal with elements of traditional Japanese music, including their outfits)

xD Now not to be confusing but Antic Cafe
but they also go by An Cafe or Antique Cafe
but yeah :3 most people just say An Cafe ^^
but they are AMAZING because they're just so fun and silly and have a great sense of fashion ^^ plus the main singer has a really captivating voice :3
also if you like sort of a techno feel
you might want to try Aural Vampire they're pretty amazing :3 the lead singer is this girl who has long long LONG blond hair and then the Rave Man <3
