and possibly some roomies for the event? It's going to be myself and possibly a friend of mine dressing up as L and Light from DN. I really need to know the closest hotel to the Convention Center since I'm utterly horrible at looking em up using yahoo. (Yahoo hates me) Obviously will pay for share of the hotel room (along with friend's share depending on if she gains a job by then, lol) Any suggestions.

If you're over 21 and driving you might consider staying at the Ameristar Casino rather than the hotel attached to the convention center. The rooms are nice and there's restaurants/bars. It's only on the other side of the highway from the convention center, they may even have a courtesy bus that takes people to the convention center.

Yes but let it be known that's a Luxury hotel and not cheap at all, One king size bed smoking is $249.00 a night. All the bars and clubs have cover charges too.

You don't have to pay a cover charge for the bars, only the clubs. The bars are on the casino floor and in the restaurants. For 2 queen beds it's about $200 a night, according to their website. My aunt does a lot of gambling and I've been to all the casinos in the area, that one mostly. The restaurants are reasonably priced and so are the drinks, the Lumiere is the one that charges luxury prices ($12 mixed drinks). The only restaurant or any place w/ food close to the convention is the Cracker Barrel then Denny's and Subway are on the other side of the highway. So if you don't want to drive anywhere and don't like CB you better bring your own food and drinks.

I wouldn't recommend staying at casino. But compared to the Embassy the Embassy is cheaper.
