Yeah, Inuyasha was ONE of my first anime, and it's the one that made em realise that I was into the more realistic and action based anime. Even YYh si like 10x more violent and mature rated! @.@
When I first started watching YYH, Kurama was y favorite. But ONLY because of his looks, after him I liked Youko because of how cruel and hot he was. Then it was onto Hiei for...well who doesn't know why they like Hiei??? He's the most awesome demon half-midget ever!!
But now that's I've started likign characters for their personality MORE than their looks...I'm a complete Yusuke fan! I love his kick you in the ass attitude.
He really reminds me of a real human teenager and what they'd do with power like that.

I just started watching anime in January this year, the only reason I'm attending this event is because my High Schools Anime club is telling me that its fun. I don't expect to know what's going on, as I haven't watched very much at all, but I started with Darker than Black, then moved on to watch Code Geass, then Haruhi, then Soul Eater, and now Evangelion. I'm hoping to finish up Evangelion and maybe watch Kino's Journey and Lucky Star before I attend this thing, because I've heard they were really good.
But yeah, just starting myself, I've got to say that Darker than Black gave me a strong urge to watch more anime, as it was quite amazing. I'm still cycling through my countless desktop backgrounds to use featuring Yin(Season 1).
Good luck.

I would go with Trinity Blood as a good starter anime. It's one of the best when it comes to fantasy mixed with action, mystery, and even emotion. I only wish there could be a continuation! ^_^

So I need some good animes but they need a few things. 1. Action (duh) 2. Mystery 3. Epic battles/ quests 4. Some blood would be nice 5. And more on the fantasy side, than based on real life. Going off this list of requirements I would suggest THE RECORD OF LODOSS WARS, THE VISION OF ESCAFLOWNE, and THE HEROIC LEGEND OF ARSLAN.

Hitman reborn is a great start. Its got comedy for the first arc, action, and great character development so you love the characters.

Here are some good ones that got me loving it: Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin, R.O.D. tv & OVA, Tenchi Muyou, Gundam SEED, Wolf's Rain, Witch Hunter Robin, and s-CRY-ed. Try those for starters. If you would like synopsis, I would be happy to write one for each.

Under no circumstances should you ever start anyone out on Evangelion, it's far too much of a disjointed mindscrew. >_< HAHAHAHA I just wanted to add my lulz!!!!

I would say go with Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple. It has everything you are looking for. As for mystery goes its not; heres a problem, gotta find the clue to solve it. I would consider the mystery part of it being what is going to happen between Kenichi and other characters throughout the anime. I find it kind of addictive.
I bought the 1st season, cause I dont like dvd's with 3 episodes and wait a few months for 2 more. After a few episodes I had to immediately go and get the 2nd one.
