I should have done this before I asked about people's first cosplays. I'm restating several things, but I am 21 (22 in June) years old. I just recently found out about cosplaying after getting into the Fullmetal Alchemist manga/anime. I happened upon a group (Ninja of the Night) of cosplayers on deviantart, then watched their videos on youtube. I realized how fun that cosplaying would be and wished that there were cons nearby. Low and behold, I searched "anime conventions" and found a site animecons.com/events and found ASTL. I'm so excited now and have been contemplating my costumes. Of course, my primary one is Edward Elric (I've noticed that several newbies choose this cosplay, though it's definitely not all that easy to design). I had written a skit, and aside from not having any friends that would come act with me, I doubt I'll have the funds to make the other three costumes for it. Also, I'm not planning on attending ASTL until next year because I need that full year to start and complete my costume(s). My second one I may keep a secret for just a little longer until I go in two weeks and find out the costs of material I need. I'm hoping to make good friends here that I can look for next year. Oh, and I've forgotten to mention earlier, I live* two hours south of St. Louis. * I previously had "like" instead of "live" here. Typos are my downfall.

Awesome. FMA is pretty much a cosplayer's dream; there's so many sweet characters/costumes to choose from. Since ASTL is going to be my first con, I've never cosplayed before, but one of my goals is to someday cosplay as Roy Mustang. This year, however, I will be doing the much simpler (but oh so cool) Bandit Keith. Simple, but tons of fun.

Ahh, I need a Roy for a skit I wrote (that I had originally wanted to do next year but may not be able to afford to buy material for the three extra costumes needed: Roy, (either Hues, Hawkeye, Ross, or one of the other familiar military faces) and a Princess Peach (yeah, not FMA, but it's what the skit is based about—her being there). Maybe one day, we could do a skit. Haha, though I'm still doubtful anyone would wannt to be in a skit with me since I have littel con experience. Anyway, Roy is an awesome character. After Al, then Ed, Roy's my favorite from both manga and series. But, you do have a great point, it is a great choice in terms of outfits. They are so amazing. ^_^ again i welcome you!! i'm sure you will have a great time here at ASTL as i did back in 07 Thanks Link! I expect it'll be amazing, and I hope to meet a great deal many new people that I actually get to meet and stay in contact with.

I would want to be in a skit with you, it doesn't matter how much con experience you have as long as you have fun doing it.

I appreciate that, but you really do have a point. As long as it's fun, it shouldn't matter the experience. And, that's how people get experience, just jump in and do(otherwise, no one would have experience). I plan to practice as much as I can and record myself once I have my costume (to see how long a skit it really is).

Sounds like loads of fun! ;D So are you coming to this year's con? Your first post made it sound like you weren't, but your second post made it seem like you are... lol. At any rate, I hope you can make it this year. Then we can meet and talk about our FMA cosplay plans.

I WISH I could make it this year, but sadly didn't find out about it until last month and thus don't have time or the money to make it (If I'd thought about it sooner, I may have been able to at least attended one day, even without a costume, of the con to have met some people, but I wasn't that quick on the draw). *sigh* But, it would still be awesome if we could do a skit. I have a hotmail, myspace, deviantart, and youtube account—aside from being on here— if that would make it easier to get a hold of me to discuss a skit. I have a script that Ijust need to tweak because frankly, I hate the beginning of it now Well, at least what I wrote for Ed. I could send it to you and let you see if you'd like—no pressure or anything.

Yeah, sounds good. Is your email and other SNs the same as on here? If not, you can email or PM me and we'll exchange contact info that way. I know what you mean about hating the beginning of scripts and stuff. I've done some writing myself in the past, and the worst part is having a great concept and not being able to articulate it or introduce it properly. I promise to be honest but nice about it. How's that sound?

How's that sound? The hotmail and deviantart pages are close. I have a theme using the alias Tuesday in most of my names, but the myspace page was originally just to keep track of bands I liked. I'll PM you my hotmail. If I knew of someone who could drive in St. Louis (because I don't handle traffic well being from a very small town area with minor "traffic"), I would try to make it at least one day of ASTL this year. Sadly, I have few friends, and most of them can't drive in St. Louis either. Yeah, I like the skit, though maybe it's not quite funny enough to anyone but me (I tend to have an offbeat sense of humor). But, I'd really appreciate nice honesty because a friend that I let read it didn't tell me anything except she liked a line I have Roy say to Ed about not wanting Ed to get whiplash from having to look up at him. So, first and foremost, I need to know if it's even worth messing with.

I live about two hours from St. Louis. On Fox2 news, the weather map will show the town that's biggest around where I live (yet still ridiculously small in comparison to the cities) called Farmington. Either KMOV or KSDK show another called Park Hills. Both are about the same distance from me, which is about twenty-five to thirty minutes driving distance.
This shows how "attentive" I am. I just now saw that you're going to cosplay as Bandit Keith this year. That's so cool! I'm still a bit of a fan over Yugioh, though I didn't get to see the season with Battle City or when Noah challenged them all, perhaps it was the same season. I just saw random episodes of those here and there.

Oh yeah, I know right where all that is. I've got family down that way. One thing to note, I don't know if you realize this or not, but the con itself is not actually in the city of St. Louis itself. It's in sort of a metro/suburban area across the MO river called St. Charles. There's no city driving involved in getting there from where you live that I know of. It's like all interstate. I don't know if that makes any difference for you or not, but I wanted to make you aware of all the facts before you give up on coming for good. lol yeah, I kind of used to obsess over the show, back when I was like 15 or so. Now I just love it mostly because of the Abridged Series. My sister owns all the seasons on DVD now, and it's fun to go through them and mock how seriously they take a children's card game.

I had read it was in St. Charles, but I don't know the area enough to know that it was just off the interstate. Then, there might be a small chance I could make it. It is still three weekends away. I might see if someone I know has a friday or saturday off and would want to go, but I'd only be able to stay most of one day instead of the whole weekend. If I did go, I'd dress as Gaz, even though I know she isn't anime or manga in any way. But, I saw Gir from Invader Zim in last years pics, as well as storm troopers. So, I don't see how me dressed as Gaz would be a problem. It all depends on how much I spend on fabric today and bills to pay. It is funny how seriously they take the card game. I have to say I like the manga best when it was in its earliest portion, where it was mostly about the Shadow Games. It was my favorite, although I do like the one five episode arc where Yugi and Joey went into that gaming system with Mokuba to save Seto. That I love and lost the vhs I had taped it on. If I could find it, I'd want to sometime cosplay as Mokuba with the armor and cape on.

Sweet. Hope it works out. lol, Invader Zim is awesome. I wouldn't worry about whether it's anime or not; what's important is that the costume is fun for you. I always see pics of different conventions, and like a quarter of the people are in Star Wars getups or whatnot. It's not a big deal at all. I loved the "Virtual world" YGO episodes too! They seemed pretty cool, back in the day. If you need footage from them for cosplay references, I'm sure you can find them on youtube or whatever. The internet is uber like that.
