I sure do hope this is the right place for this. ;D I am looking to either start or join a general cosplay group. My friends and I used to have a group, there was about 7-8 of us, once everyone graduated high school we all kind of went our seperate ways. Since then a few of us have continued to cosplay together, but it's basicly just two of us left. We've been talking about starting a group, making new friends, get back to where we were. I'm not too sure if there are any groups in the area, and if not, if there is anyone interested in starting one. Here is my cosplay.com account; www.cosplay.com/gallery/m12474/You can also see pictures of the different groups we've put together. (Sailor Moon, NANA, Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis, Final Fantasy VIII, Neon Genesis Evangelion) But, that's not all we did. We had meetings once a month, scheduled photoshoots to get good pictures of everyone's costumes, traveled together and hosted events. It was so much fun and I've made some of my clostest friends from being in a cosplay group. I'd LOVE to have the opportunity to do it again! As an added note, this is my BFF's cosplay.com gallery; www.cosplay.com/gallery/a27608/It's not very up-to-date, but there's a general idea of what she's all about. (Because she's AWESOME~) Anyhow REPLY if you have any information, or would be interested. We could meet before Anime St.Louis, or at Anime St.Louis. Whatever works! I'm just looking to be a part of a group again and make some new friends!

I don't want to sound like a N00B, but I'm not entirely sure what that is. o.O Is it a video game? Anime? Manga? I'm always open to checking out new stuff, I've been trying the broaden my horizons a little bit. ^.^

She's talking more of a in general group of cosplaying, not just one series, that's where it differs Link. I will say goodluck though Hachiko, I think you'll find people quickly on here and if you advertise on DeviantArt too! I have my own little cosplay group that we cosplay different series together on and off. :3

*signs*... ya i can see that... i'm sorry i'm just getting down for the reason I can't get people to commet to making a LoZ group. >_< then it is hard being the only one on here that wants to talk about LoZ, and the only LoZ cosplayer thats on here.
I guess the reason why i said what i said was that i know that normaly general cosplay groups tend to try a one series cosplays together.

Awww~~~!!! Don't get down guys!
That's what's great about being in a "general" cosplay group, everyone kind of pitches in to see each other's goals come to life. I've done costumes in the past for the sake of my group that weren't particularly character's I enjoyed. It may have just been how we worked; but we'd all pitch in on costume work and ideas so we could each cosplay from something we enjoyed. But, we all made sure to check out the series or game our friends suggested so we had an idea of what was going on. I was turned on to a lot of different anime/manga series from friend's suggestions.
Don't get me wrong, I've been in series specific groups as well. I used to be a Sailor Venus/Minako Aino cosplayer, my whole collection of costumes were her's and I was a member of several groups. However, after a while it started to get tasking doing the same character over and over and over again, no matter how many of her costumes I completed. I met a TON of great friends doing Sailor Moon cosplay, but once I branced out I met a whole new group of people.
Cosplay for me, is all about making friends and having a good time! If you aren't having fun, then it just isn't worth it!
I'm certainly going to check out Samurai Deeper Kyo, I'm reading Fruits Basket right now because a couple of friend's of mine want me to join in on a group, but Samurai Deeper Kyo is certainly next up on my list. I've been wanting to get into more manga. I've really only read; NANA, Paradise Kiss, Sailor V, FMA and Hellsing.
As for LOZ, I've never really played the games. I played one or two when I was younger (about 13 years ago) but I haven't since then. I'm more of a FF girl. However, I've always loved the costume and character designs.
The trick to having a successful group, series specific or other wise, isn't in how many people you have, but how much FUN you have!~ If you've only got 2-3 people, but your costumes are something to be proud of and you're having a great time, that's all that matters! It's especially awesome when you live close to your fellow members, you can go fabric shopping together and have sewing parties!~
But, like I said, I'm always looking for new series to check out and new costumes to make. ^.^

Link, I don't really know much about you or anything. Do you travel to conventions outside of the St.Louis area? If you're having such a hard time finding people to do a group with you here on this specific forum maybe you should try cosplay.com's forums, or the forums of any other conventions you attend.
It's also a good idea to kind of scope out the crowds at conventions. Sometimes people don't post on forums. If you see someone in a LOZ costume don't be afraid to approach them, tell them you like their costume, give them your contact information and see if they'd be interested in hooking up later for pictures or future indevers. Or, if you meet a fellow cosplayer that admires your costume, inquire on their interest in possiably making a LOZ costume themselves.
But the show of interest here on the Anime St.Louis forums it may seem as if not many people are interested, but LOZ is actually extremely popular. I think the biggest downfall is, some of the costumes are complex. There are a lot of new cosplayers on these forums, those costumes might be out of their skill level, or maybe they're just unintereted. Regardless, if you put yourself out there to a larger crowd you're more likely to gather interest.
I had a complete Sailor Moon group; 10 people. I gathered them by meeting on forums, livejournal and at conventions. When we met in person at one convention we planned to make new costume together for a convention later down the line. It was difficult, but with a little hard work it all came together and we had a fantastic time. You just have to put yourself out there, open up, and "kill them with kindness" as I like to say!~ ^.~

I would definately be interested in a cosplay group but sadly my range of manga that I've read is sorely lacking. Of course I'm open to suggestions but I don't always have the time. I plan on reading some more before the convention. I'm fairly new at this so I'm starting with a character I know a lot about (and one that is probably done too often but I don't care)
I was happy when you said you were reading Fruits Basket. I'm always trying to get people into it, it is such an awesome series. ^^

Oh, I understand not having much free time; I work and have a 2-year-old daughter. But, luckily I've found several resources for scanlations and streaming online. I usually read or watch a little bit every night before I go to bed, after my daughter is asleep. It's good to have some "Me" time.
Well, like I said, I haven't read much manga either. Really I've only read NANA, Paradise Kiss, Sailor V, FMA, & Hellsing. I'm just now reading Fruits Basket and then I'm going to read the series koibito sanada suggested next.
What character are you planning on cosplaying?
I don't know if you plan on attending the meeting at the Mills Saturday, but my BFF and I will be there if you'd like to meet up! ^.^
